Rescue:
Mitzie was found in a small village in the spring, scooting in and out of hiding places, avoiding people getting too close, but also trying to get their attention with mews at times because she was so hungry. When she arrived at her rescuers door, she was thin and
disheveled, and they immediately put food out for her daily. However, once the feeding
routine was established, if they were late, she let them know with loud meows. Initially she
would run away when they came out on the deck, but the distance got shorter and shorter,
and eventually she started coming up close and rubbing against their legs in appreciation.
Mitzie had a litter of kittens in the fall and they provided this feline family with a heated cat
house but they knew the kittens would not do well over the winter. There were five in total.
The rescuers kept two, another neighbour adopted one and the other little ones came into
our care. All have done well.
Personality:
Although Mitzie had a tough beginning to her life, she was lucky enough to arrive at the
right property and be rescued. So many cat find themselves abandoned and unable to
fend for themselves properly. Mitzie was a bit nervous when she arrived at our sanctuary
but with time and patience, she has really come out of her shell and been able to interact
with people nicely. She learned from the other cats on how to interact with humans and
quite likes it. Her entertainment is watching what is going on outside, whether it is the
birds and squirrels, traffic or general comings and goings of the volunteers. She is a lovely
cat, ready to be adopted into her forever home. One that will welcome her into the family
and keep her safely indoors.
