Rescue:
Melody was noticed by a former coworker of one of our volunteers. She was at a friend’s farm
looking after things while they were on holiday. She noticed Melody nursing her three little
calico kittens in the host’s garden. They had been there since they were born, and as the story
goes, Melody had already spent two winters outside, she refused to go into the barn. We don’t
know where she found proper shelter. When Pet Patrol received the call, one of the kittens had
already fallen into the pool and been fished out. The days were cold and nights were even colder.
The next day, she saw the mother cat take the kittens across the highway to hunt in the field. One
kitten got a little confused and sat down right on the yellow line! That was enough. All the cats were
quickly brought into Pet Patrol’s care where they have warmed up and thrived.
Personality:
Melody is such a sweet and caring mama. When she arrived in our care, she was injured.
Thankfully, she healed up quickly and showed her gratitude many times over. It’s very sad that she
had to live outdoors, even through the winter months. As time has gone on and her kittens have
been weaned and adopted, Melody has really come out of her shell. She is very social, enjoys
being with people, and loves pets and cuddles. She is ready to be adopted into her forever home;
one that will welcome her into the family and keep her safely indoors.
